Licenses.

AegisGenera is a layered system. Each layer has its own license. This page documents all of them -- clearly, completely, without ambiguity -- because regulated buyers need to know exactly what runs in their environment before procurement begins.

All General Reasoning commercial licenses include source. You know what runs in your environment. That is not negotiable.

Open components.

These components are open source. Their licenses govern your rights to use, modify, and distribute them. General Reasoning complies fully with all open source license obligations.

Component License Notes
Linux Kernel Open GPL v2 The substrate of the AegisGenera OS image. GPL v2 governs the kernel itself. User-space applications running on the kernel are not subject to GPL v2. Source availability required on distribution of the kernel image.
Yocto Project Open MIT The build system used to construct the AegisGenera minimal OS image. The Yocto tooling is MIT licensed. Individual packages assembled by Yocto carry their own licenses as listed here.
Chandra Protocol Core Open MIT The open protocol specification and reference implementation. Append-only, hash-chained audit protocol for human and agent actions. Free to use, modify, and deploy. Community ports and implementations are welcomed.
CRC Standard Open MIT The Consolidate, Reduce, Close Minimum Surface Standard. Published as an open framework. Organizations are encouraged to score their stacks, publish their scores, and use the framework as a basis for architecture review. See crcstandard.com.

Chandra Core vs. Chandra Enterprise.

The distinction between Chandra Core and Chandra Enterprise is worth stating precisely.

Chandra Core
MIT License
The open protocol. Everything required to run a governed, append-only, hash-chained audit system for a single instance.
  • Context Unit (CU) -- atomic append
  • Lineage chain -- hash-sealed sequence
  • Attribution record -- every action attributed
  • Snapshot -- full reconstruction at any point
  • Tickler -- forward-scheduled CU

Free to use, modify, deploy, and port. Community implementations welcomed.
Chandra Enterprise
Commercial License
Core plus the federation and navigation layer for multi-instance regulated deployments.
  • Hub -- cross-instance rollup records
  • Domain -- organizational boundary management
  • Instance -- governed deployment unit
  • Marshaller -- paginated cross-instance chain navigation

Built on and fully compatible with open Core. All commercial licenses include source.
